What is the Globalstar Satellite Network?
6 Jun 2016The Globalstar Satellite Network is, as its name implies, a network of second generation satellites that were launched into space to provide commercial services for crystal clear voice technology and more. The launch, completed on February 6th of 2013 consists of 32 Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites.
The satellites comprising the Globalstar Satellite Network are simplistic in design, consisting of S and L-band antennas for communication, two solar arrays, and a trapezoidal body. The software for the systems is located on the ground rather than on the individual satellites so they can be maintained and upgraded much more efficiently.
The second generation satellites are designed to last 15 years, which is twice as long as the first generation satellites and they accommodate voice communications as well as duplex and simplex data services and products. In addition to crystal clear voice services, users are attracted to the Globalstar network for its ease of use. One thing users love about making and receiving calls via Globalstar satellites is that they lack the delays or latency associated with making calls on other satellite networks.
Using “bent pipes” that operate like mirrors in the sky, the Globalstar network receives signals from more than 80 percent of the earth’s surface. It does not operate in extreme Polar Regions and some mid-ocean regions will not receive service. The diversity of the paths allow for calls to remain stable and not be dropped even when moving outside of a specific satellites coverage region.
Satellite communication is the only communication possible in some remote and war-torn regions of the world. The Globalstar satellite system provides high quality communication services to these regions at affordable rates – something that hasn’t been possible with former technology.
The reach of the Globalstar satellite system goes well beyond telephone communications though and has much to offer industries dealing with products around the world.
LiveView GPS is a Globalstar value added reseller. One example of the products it carries is the Satellite GPS Tracker SmartOne C, an easy-to-use tracking solution that tracks powered, non-powered, fixed, and mobile assets deployed around the world.
SmartOne C utilizes Globalstar’s network of Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites, which is the newest network available. These satellites orbit the earth constantly with complete rotations within a two hour timeframe. The satellites’ speedy orbits allow the SmartOne C to contact a minimum of one satellite for every transmission.
