GPS Tracking Helps “Yard Sheriff” Locate Stolen Lawn Care Equipment
15 Apr 2013Local “Yard Sheriff” has built a reputation of “lawn ‘n order” for being tough on tall grass and weeds. Today, there’s a new feather under his big white cowboy hat: being tough on crime.
This new feather is the GPS tracking devices installed on his company trucks.
A Bixby, Oklahoma lawn care provider was able to use his GPS tracking system to help locate thousands of dollars worth of stolen business equipment.
Darren DeShazer, Yard Sheriff General Manager, discovered the back garage door open when he arrived at work one morning. He then walked out of the warehouse the business has occupied for about three months to discover that the Ford F-250 and trailer he used for his business were gone.
DeShazer immediately recalled how he uses his iPad in conjunction with his GPS tracking system to track the whereabouts of employees who are out working jobs and new that he would be able to track the missing truck.
He dialed 911 and with the information available and the chase was on. The GPS tracking tool help to save the day in this case. At least, it helped save the truck and locate much of the missing equipment.
Fortunately for DeShazer, the trailer had been filled with leaves, sticks, and debris that had the thieves had to remove before the trucks could be loaded with costly, stolen lawn equipment. This took time and limited the number of items that was taken from the property. While the truck and trailer were found during the search, not all of the missing equipment was recovered.
“An hour and half later we had most of our stuff back. They did a great job. Had we not had this tracker we would have been searching this city,” said DeShazer in full of praise of the police department.
The theft comes at one of the worst times of year for the Yard Sheriff as summer is just around the corner and their busy season has begun. He doesn’t believe, however, that this incident will slow business for the coming year thanks to his quick thinking, GPS tracking technology, and the fast actions of local law enforcement.
